Comments from Hikers...

Sheryl,

This note is from Marsha from Indiana. My husband and I met you on a trail by Snowbird last April. (It was our honeymoon!). You were leading a hike with women and you gave us your card/information. You added me to your mailing list of hikes, trips, groups, classes and activities.

I just wanted to let you know how much I love receiving the emails. I was so captured by Utah, and I appreciate seeing pictures of it. I am so impressed of all the activities and trips that you offer! I so wish that we could participate. I have told Todd that I loved the area so much I have sights on retiring there, and he agrees. I do so hope when or if that day comes that you are still in the area and can introduce us to all the wonderful experiences you offer. Of course until that day comes, I hope we make another trip there.

On particularly weary days for me at work, it gives me great joy to open your emails and see beautiful pictures of Utah, think back of our trip, and to yearn for the day I can return.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful world with me!

Marsha

I just want to let you know how much I appreciate these trips. They are my way of "finding myself", as at the age of almost 58 I am trying to figure out "what to do with the rest of my life." You are much appreciated.

“When I traveled on a family trip from Georgia to Utah in 2004, Sheryl took my family on a hike to Secret Lake in the Albion Basin . It was a breathtaking experience and I fell in love with the Utah Mountains . Since then I have moved to Utah and have been on numerous hikes with Sheryl year-round. As a Florida native, one would think I would hate to be around snow but Sheryl taught me that snowshoeing is a good way to get out and enjoy the winter and now I just love it. Sheryl’s guidance and expertise on the hikes has allowed me to experience trails I would not have been able to find on my own. By being part of the group I’ve made many new friends younger and older who share my love for the beauty of Utah . I would recommend her group to anyone I know because she genuinely cares for each of the hikers and helping them to reach new heights”. Steve Danson

My name is Sue Berlach and I am an Australian and New Zealand citizen who has been living in SLC for the past year. I met Sheryl through googling 'snow shoeing' and her website came up. As a result I ended up hiking, kayaking, camping, snowshoeing and skiing with Sheryl over the course of this year. I have seen some amazing places in the world but Utah is spectacular and through Sheryl's group I have seen it 'up close and personal'. I have had so much fun as a result of meeting this 'crazy girl' I could write a book! Not only have I had more fun in a year than any one person should legally be allowed to have, I have met some wonderful people with whom I will remain friends, even though I have to return to Australia. Sheryl has been such an inspiration to me too! The Nike ad says -Just do it! - and Sheryl does! She rocks! You go girl!

What I appreciate most about hiking or snowshoeing with Sheryl is her concern for those she takes with her. Snowshoeing may seem to some to be as simple as strapping on a pair of snowshoes and heading into the mountains, but that is a good way to end up in big trouble. Sheryl ensures that outings are outside of avalanche areas, and educates participants on the dangers of avalanches. And she also not only encourages participants to dress appropriately, bring food and water and other supplies, but she packs plenty of extras for those who aren't fully prepared. Mark Tisch

After I quit smoking I wanted, (needed) to get out of the house and get back in shape. Granite Peaks had this "Hiking in the Spring" Class, so I thought I would try it out. Didn't really know what to expect. My social skills have never been that good, and it was a little intimidating to jump into a group of strangers. Although there is a wide variety of people that come to the hiking group, there is one thing we all automatically have in common. We like to Hike.
To say "I had a great time" is just not enough. We hiked through some of the most beautiful parts of Utah's Mountains and Parks. The group is so much fun. All week long I look forward to going hiking with what are now some very close friends.
It took awhile to get my lungs and heart back in shape. One nice thing about Sheryl's hiking group is that there are different levels of hikers. Most days I can keep up with the faster hikers. Maybe not the whole hike, but I try. The other days, I can just kick back and take an easier hike with the rest of the group. Gives you a chance to chat with everyone.
Its been almost a year now since I joined this hiking group, and I can honestly say that this past year has been one of the best years of my life. Scott

I started hiking with Sheryl’s group three winters ago. I am a “summer” person but decided that I needed to embrace winter. Joining Sheryl’s group was one of the best things I’ve done for me and my family. It allows me to participate in an activity I enjoy and when “The Mom” is happy everyone else is happy. I have hiked and snow shoed with Sheryl in weather ranging from 5 degrees to 100 degrees and have always had a great time. She teaches the group how to dress and adapt to all weather conditions, makes sure the trails are safe, and is genuinely concerned for everyone’s well being. I am a fair weather person but Sheryl somehow manages to make even camping in the rain not only an adventure but an enjoyable experience. There is a place for everyone in this group – all ages, all abilities. Do yourself a favor and embrace the wonderful outdoor opportunities of this beautiful state and meet some great people, all while doing your body a healthful favor. You’ll be having such a good time you won’t even realize that this is “exercise”! Francis Carr

Participating in outdoor activities and making friends with people of similar interests is enriching my life, thanks to Sheryl. My acquaintance with Sheryl grew from her snowshoeing community ed program in early 2007 and has continued with hiking, kayaking, and skiing. Sheryl is awesome: the most energetic, multi-talented, and caring person I have known. Truly a "can do" person, she organizes and carries out each adventure with both fun and safety uppermost, and she shares this passion generously and her enthusiasm is catching! Judy

Hiking is a great way to get out for exercise and to see some scenery. Winter hiking with snowshoes is fun and easy. Sheryl makes everyone feel right at home and leads us on some great hikes. And you meet such nice people in her hiking groups. A perfect way to beat the winter "blahs"

I started hiking with Sheryl through Granite Peaks in June 2007. Recently divorced I was looking to get in shape, meet new people and rediscover the beauty that Utah has to offer. I am a native Utahn and as a kid I did a lot of camping and skiing with my family. As an adult I became too caught up in the pressures and reality of life and I took for granted the outdoor experiences that surround us here in Utah. Sheryl's group has given me the opportunity in a safe and knowledgeable atmosphere to rediscover my love of the outdoors.
Sheryl is a very personable person that makes everyone feel comfortable. Whether you are just starting out or are a seasoned hiker she makes it fun for everyone. Her hiking guides are equally as knowledgeable and fun to be with. The hiking group is a very diverse group of people that all share the love of the great outdoors. I have never met a better group of people. I have made friends that I know I will have for the rest of my life.
Through Sheryl's group I have been to some beautiful places and tried some new things that I never would have on my own (snow shoeing and kayaking). I have also found a new hobby in photography. I look forward to discovering more with Crazy Sheryl. Thanks to Sheryl I am now a hiker for life.

I have really enjoyed myself this past year hiking with Sheryl's group. And I have met some wonderful friends along the way. What a great way to stay healthy. Joining her hiking group was one of the best things I did last year. Wan

"Adventures" with Sheryl offer not only remarkable hiking on the great local trails of the Wasatch, but rendezvous with kayaking, scenic tours, and finding new friends. Her energetic talent generates other memorable excursions such as pot lucks, camping, holiday events, snowshoeing, photography, and heaps of fun, all worth writing in your journal about. It's a journey to an adventure. Lana Price

Hiking with Sheryl’s group is a fun experience. All levels of participation are welcome, and everyone can find their own groove. Kevin Cummins
